SPRING CLEANING 

I know….I know…I’m a little late with this post, however, I have been doing my very own spring cleaning so please excuse my tardiness. As they say, BETTER LATE THAN NEVER.

Well as you all know, Spring is finally here! Out with the OLD and in with the NEW.  Now before you pull out your cleaning supplies let’s revisit the true meaning of spring cleaning.

Spring cleaning does not solely focus on the cleaning of your home or your wardrobe. It’s also about doing a thorough cleaning of your mind and body as well.

Spring can have us feeling restless, so start the new season off right by recharging your own batteries. We usually think of spring cleaning as housework, but the new season is the perfect time to refresh your mind and body. There are many ways to give yourself a spring clean, whether that may be cleaning up your finances, your energy, your computer files or your skin. Remember you are important as well.

I began my spring cleaning with a thorough re-evaluation of my current state. I revisited my goals I set for myself at the beginning of the year and started to clean. I started looking for a new apartment (my lease was up), working on my health and then updating my finances. The best way to make progress in your life sometimes is to create a checklist of things you want to complete and make sure you complete them all. Just like your typical grocery list, check off those spring cleaning actions to make your progress.

Below I have created a few check-ins for you all to visit while working on your spring cleaning:

Emotional Check: Take stock of what’s important on an emotional and psychological level. What are some things holding you back? What’s weighing you down and having a negative impact on your life? It could be something that’s keeping you from being promoted at work, it could be something that’s affecting your relationships, or it could be a person who is toxic in your life.

Doing an emotional check will help you re-evaluate what is affecting you and what you need to adjust or eliminate to have a healthier, happier life.

Work-It-Out: One of my goals for 2017 has been to lose 15 more pounds. I’ve made progress since last year, however, I’m ready to be completely snatched. This year’s spring cleaning session consisted of increasing my cardio and lifting more.  You don’t have to run a marathon to reap the benefits of exercise. A low-level exercise, such as walking or doing beginner’s yoga, benefits your cardiovascular system, blood circulation, lungs, and muscles.

In addition, it will give you a rush of feel-good hormones and renew you physically and mentally. You’ll be surprised at how just a ten-minute workout, of even a beginner’s level exercise, will help you feel better in body and mind.

Meditate: My meditation consist of prayer and reading my daily devotional. Every morning after making my protein shake or green smoothie I stop and read my devotional. It truly helps sets the tone for my day.

A 15-minute meditation session will clear your mind and give you a fresh perspective. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed, stressed and weighed down by all the mental clutter. A meditation session will be sure to help you re-prioritize, de-stress, and have a renewed sense of energy. It’s extremely important to give yourself spiritual and psychological maintenance. Keeping your mind and spirit invigorated will help you keep up with the demands of your life and schedule.
